What is Volunteers in Education (ViE)?
Volunteers in Education (ViE) was created in 1977 and serves to enrich education in Rochester Public Schools by making the time, talents, and expertise of parents/caretakers, community members, and community businesses available to students and staff.
Rochester Public Schools encourages parents, guardians, grandparents, and community members to share their time, talents, and knowledge with our students. Volunteers in our schools enrich the educational programs and strengthen our school relationships with families, businesses, and the community as a whole. The education of our students takes a community effort.
What is Get Connected?
Get Connected is a web platform for school districts and non-profits to communicate volunteer opportunities. When you make an account here on our Volunteers in Education website, you will make a Get Connected account. Volunteers in Education is our branded name for our Get Connected website.
Who is eligible to volunteer?
Most volunteer opportunities are open to all adults age 18 and older and do not require prior experience.
Requirement: All volunteers working with students must have a background check completed and cleared before they can begin.
Am I able to volunteer if I do not have a Social Security Number?
You may be eligible for some volunteer opportunities. Please create an account and select that you are "unable to submit the background check form."
Our standard background check process requires a Social Security number to verify the identity of volunteers.
We understand that some caregivers and community members want to support our students but may not have a Social Security number. We review these requests individually, though we cannot guarantee that they will be approved.
